inZOI has revealed the first in-game footage of Canvastown, giving players a much closer look at the game's optional multiplayer and creation-focused side project.
Designed as a separate experience from the main life simulation, Canvastown will combine MyZoi, MyHome, social interactions, custom scenarios, mini-games, and modding in a shared online space built around player-created content.
🎨 What Is Canvastown?
Canvastown is being developed as an optional experience separate from inZOI's main gameplay. It will have its own entry point from the main menu, and playing it will not directly affect the main life simulation.
The development team also emphasized that Canvastown has been worked on by a dedicated group and has not replaced the team's efforts to improve the core inZOI experience.
The concept behind Canvastown is to give players a place where they can step away from the usual routines of life simulation and instead focus on social experiences, role-playing, storytelling, and creation.
The project is still in development, so some of the systems shown in the video may change based on player feedback.
🧑 MyZoi: Choose Your Character
Entering Canvastown from the main menu will take players to a MyZoi selection screen.
Players will be able to:
- Select an existing appearance
- Create a new MyZoi
- Save multiple appearances as presets
- Choose which appearance to use when entering Canvastown
The team is also considering whether players would prefer having a single permanent avatar that can be edited whenever needed.
🏠 Build Your Own MyHome
After creating or selecting a MyZoi, players will enter MyHome, their personal living space in Canvastown.
Players can build their home from scratch or browse through thousands of houses uploaded to Canvas and use one as their home.
This could also give builders another way to showcase their creations, with the development team hoping Canvastown can provide greater visibility for talented creators.
🌐 AR Company: A Social Hub
One of the central locations in Canvastown is AR Company, where players can meet other creators and NPC employees.
Instead of communicating through traditional dialogue bubbles, players will be able to type messages to other players and NPCs.
NPC employees can respond based on their personality and current situation, with conversations potentially affecting their emotions and subsequent actions.
Depending on how a conversation develops, an NPC may even decide to end the conversation.
This means conversations are intended to be more than simple text exchanges, with what players say potentially influencing what happens next.
🏡 Visit Other Creators' Homes
At the center of Canvastown is a large globe with a control tablet.
Using it, players can teleport to the MyHomes of other creators and explore their builds.
These house tours can also become social experiences, allowing players to interact with:
- The homeowner
- Other Zois at the location
- Other creators
This creates a space where impressive player-built homes can become destinations rather than simply creations sitting in a gallery.
🎮 Custom Mini-Games & Scenarios
Canvastown isn't limited to socializing and house tours.
Players will also be able to experience custom mini-games and scenarios created by other creators.
These can be played:
- Alone with NPCs
- With other players
- In private sessions with friends
- As part of online multiplayer experiences
The development team has already experimented with this concept internally, including custom mini-games created through modding.
One example previously shown was a car-racing mini-game.
The goal is to combine inZOI's native creation tools with its modding capabilities so creators can build experiences that go far beyond the standard life-simulation gameplay.
👥 Multiplayer With Up to 50 Players
Canvastown is being designed with multiplayer interaction in mind, but the team also wants to prevent social spaces from becoming chaotic.
The current plan is to allow up to 50 players in a single AR Company channel.
Players who don't want to interact with strangers will also have other options. Canvastown is planned to support:
- Solo play
- Private sessions
- Inviting selected friends
- Multiplayer sessions with other creators
The team is also exploring ways for players to invite friends into their current channel.
🛠️ A Platform for Player-Created Experiences
The broader idea behind Canvastown is to give creators a foundation for building their own stories and experiences.
Rather than simply providing another conventional game mode, the team wants players to use native inZOI tools and modding to create scenarios that other people can then experience.
This could range from small social situations to custom mini-games and larger role-playing scenarios.
The development team has described the concept as a way for players to temporarily step away from reality and experience different lives inside the world of inZOI.
🔮 Canvastown Is Still Evolving
The first in-game footage gives a much clearer picture of what Canvastown could eventually become, but the project remains a work in progress.
The team stressed that its explanations and plans for Canvastown have evolved as development has progressed, and further changes are expected as player feedback is collected.
It also clarified that some features rumored online — such as building an entire city from scratch or freely laying down roads — are not currently available.
Future plans include expanding the ability to decorate the city and edit terrain, but those features are not part of the current Canvastown experience.
For now, Canvastown remains a separate side project focused on social interaction, player creation, role-playing, custom scenarios, and multiplayer experiences.
The first gameplay showcase provides the clearest look yet at the direction of the project, while the team continues to gather feedback on how players would like to experience this new side of inZOI.
