Improvement to the convenience store/clerk career
First I wanted to mention that even though I understand cashier jobs / retail manager jobs are usually part time in Korean and many other asian countries, its not so the case in Europe, where a cashier job can be full time, particularly if you are a manager. With this beign said, these ideas are how I think that specific job could be enhanced:
🔵 1. GOAL ORIENTED WORKING/SHIFTS
When working, instead of just repeating the same tasks daily, which can get tiring very quickly, there should always be a goal. In any kind of retail job there would be two goal markers:
1.1. Customer happiness. What affects this marker?
🔹Shelves being properly restocked so that customers always find what they're looking for.
🔹Good customer service (positive social interactions, not having to wait at the register).
🔹Shop being clean and tidy.
🔹Good discount and offers.
1.2. Employee productivity. What affects this marker?
🔹Arriving late/early.
🔹Keeping your uniform clean and your hygiene proper.
🔹Keeping shelves stocked.
🔹Keeping the store clean.
🔹Positive social interactions with your manager and coworkers.
🔹Keeping customers happy.
🔵 2. MEANINGFULNESS
Tasks need to be meaningful; for example there's no point in restocking if the stock isn't going down, as there's no point in cleaning when nothing ever gets dirty or being at the cash register if nobody is coming to check out. How can we add meaningfulness, then?
💠 2.1 Restocking
During the shifts, stock should go down, and the zoi would have to be alert and restock before it runs out.
⚠️ If you don't restock a shelf before product runs out, you should have a negative consecuence, a warning from your manager "Please restock X shelf, and be more aware next time" and your productivity marker goes down. For this, two interactions would be necesary: “check stock”, and “replenish”.* [Note: replenish option would be greyed out unless you are carrying a box of the matching type of product.]
If possible, restocking should actually require the clerk to go to the storage room, choose the right shelf for the right product and go back to the shelf to replenish. It would need an animation where the clerk walks carrying a box.
If you chose the right product, click on the shelf, replenish.
If you chose the wrong product, you have two options: drop the box on the floor or simply go back to the storage room, choose the right product and return to the shelf to replenish.
📦 The box: You can leave it on the floor at anytime (inside the store). The box would sit there -you can pick it up later- but as long as it sits on the floor, it will impact the cleanliness metric negatively. (A reason for leaving it on the floor would be, for example, that someone is waiting at the register and you must go there first).
💟 Fun addition: clients could pick boxes that are lying around and steal them if they are in the criminal career OR you could just walk away with a box of paprika chips because you are fed up of the retail life and get fired for stealing and leaving your position.
💠 2.2 Cleanliness
There could be a series of events that would affect this metric.
🔹Products Falling/Breaking
Product falling and breaking could happen in three scenarios, with consequences and interactions unique to each of them. How could this look like? For solid products, it'd be a pile of rubbish and for liquids a simple/basic puddle.
⚠️ 1st Scenario: Product falling and breaking when a customer picks something from the shelf, there's a random chance products might fall to the floor because the customer was clumsy. When this happens you can click on the customer and choose two interactions: make the customer feel at ease, or lecture the customer. You can also ignore the customer and clean the mess.
⚠️ 2nd Scenario: Product falling and breaking when a clerk restocks a shelf (random chance). In this scenario, the manager can choose to reprimand them nicely or with harsher words. If the manager is an npc, the reaction could depend on the relationship between manager/clerk.
⚠️ 3rd Scenario: Product falling and breaking when a clerk is carrying a box, there's a chance they might trip. Chance depends on fitness levels + depletion of sleep need. When they trip, product will break and be smashed if its breakable, or nothing will happen if it's not. For example, if you trip carrying a box of paprika chips, the bags of chops dont breka of course.
💟 Fun addition: When the zoi trips, there is a very small chance they'll get hurt so they would have to go home and rest for the day.
💠 2.3 Customer service
🔹 Customers are unable to cash out until the clerk is at the counter and clicks the interaction "charge customer/help". Clicking on that interaction would dismiss the customer. If you take too much time to attend the customer, they become angry and customer happiness metric goes down. If you are quick to go to the cash register and attend them, metric goes up.
🔹Additionaly, we could have special/context exclusive interactions with clients that reflect in our zoi's performance metric. Here some silly, quick thought examples:
🍟 Recommend Paprika chips: negative or positive reward from interaction would depend on what the customer likes. If they don't like Paprika Chips, they feel annoyed, Customer happiness goes down and your productivity goes down. If they like them, it's the other way around.
💲Inform about latest offers. Always boosts productivity and customer happines?
🫗Recommend a cold drink: if the weather is hot, customer happiness goes up. If the weather is cold, custoner happiness goes down.
🧋Recommend hot drink: contrary to the above.
💟 Fun addition: some interactions could have variants that depend on the clerk zois mood. For example, if the zoi has the sleepig needs depleted, the only interaction with the cash register would be "attend cash register sloppily" and then you get a chance everytime that you'll give the wrong change.
