inZOI's next major update has been delayed slightly and is now planned for early September. However, the development team says the extra time is being used to focus on something just as important as new content: making Zois behave more naturally and ensuring that the game's life simulation systems work together in a more believable way.

In this week's development update, the team showcased a wide range of features currently in development, including active interactions, an updated vacation system, restaurants, sleepovers, school controls, NPC autonomy settings, and several improvements to everyday Zoi behavior.

📅 August Update Delayed to Early September

Kjun confirmed that the upcoming update will no longer arrive in August as originally planned. Instead, the team is now targeting early September.

According to the developer, this update will not be particularly large in terms of brand-new content. Much of the development effort is currently focused on improving the foundations of inZOI's life simulation.

The goal is to make everyday behavior feel more natural and purposeful rather than simply having Zois spend time in a location without properly interacting with the things they came there to do.

Two new systems are being developed to support this direction:

  • 🎯 Location-based action priorities, allowing Zois to prioritize specific actions when entering certain places.
  • 🔒 Interaction permissions, allowing developers to define which Zois can use specific objects.

For example, when visiting a burger restaurant, a Zoi could naturally order food from a kiosk, wait in a customer seat, receive their meal, eat it, and eventually return home. Employees, meanwhile, would no longer randomly use seating intended for customers.

However, players who have heavily customized regions or spaces may need to re-register some information after these systems are introduced. The team is also preparing a reset option to help apply the new system correctly.

Kjun emphasized that the developers want community feedback before fully implementing these changes and are prepared to reconsider them if players strongly disagree with the new approach.

🎮 More Active Interactions Are in Development

The team is also experimenting with new button-based active interactions, giving players more direct control over certain actions.

One example shown in the video allows a Zoi to instantly pick up a plate of food with a button press. Another action can then be used to throw that object toward a selected target.

Players can also trigger a hand-swinging action, which can potentially hit another Zoi depending on where it lands.

These systems could open the door to more direct and dynamic interactions in the future.

🌊 More Natural Movement on Water

A small but noticeable improvement has also been added to Zois floating on water.

Instead of remaining completely still, Zois now gently sway while floating, adding a more natural sense of movement to the animation.

✈️ The Vacation System Gets an Updated Preview

The upcoming vacation system has received another preview, showing more of how traveling could work in inZOI.

Players will be able to choose:

  • 🌍 Their destination
  • 👥 Which Zois will travel with them
  • 🏨 Their accommodation

Once on vacation, Zois can explore the area, try local food, or enjoy the facilities available at their accommodation — including more luxurious resort amenities.

The system is still in development, and the team is continuing to gather ideas from players about what else they would like to see included.

🍽️ A More Complete Restaurant Experience

Restaurants are also being developed to feel more like actual dining experiences.

Instead of simply arriving and performing random interactions, Zois will be able to order food at their table, wait for it to be prepared, and have their meal delivered by a waiter.

This fits directly into the team's larger goal of giving Zois clearer purposes when visiting specific locations.

🛏️ Sleepovers Will Create New Social Scenarios

Another new feature in development is the sleepover system.

Players will be able to invite other Zois to stay overnight at their home, opening up more possibilities for friendships, relationships, and storytelling.

According to the developers, this could range from inviting close friends over to spending the night with a romantic interest.

🏫 More Control Over School and NPC Behavior

The team is also adding new options that could give players greater control over the simulation.

For schools, players will be able to specify which students belong to different class periods.

Meanwhile, new NPC autonomy settings will allow players to define default behaviors for NPC Zois.

These settings can control whether NPCs are allowed to perform certain actions, including:

  • 💬 Joining or interrupting conversations
  • 💍 Getting married
  • 💔 Getting divorced
  • 🤰 Becoming pregnant

This could give players much more control over how their wider in-game world develops.

👶 Babies Can Finally Be Interacted With Outside the Home

One highly requested improvement is also on the way: Zois will finally be able to interact with babies outside their own home.

This should make family gameplay feel less restricted and allow for more natural interactions between Zois and babies in different locations.

🏃 Running Will Become Easier

The team is also addressing the need to constantly hold Shift while running.

With the new system, holding W for an extended period will automatically transition the Zoi into a running motion.

Players who prefer the current movement style will also have the option to disable this feature.

🏠 Zois Will Make Better Decisions When Their Home Is Nearby

Another frustrating autonomy issue is being fixed.

Previously, when a Zoi was outside but close to home, they could continue searching for ways to satisfy their needs outside instead of simply going inside.

The improved behavior will allow Zois to recognize that their home is nearby and return there when appropriate to eat, use the toilet, and satisfy other needs.

🍽️ Smarter Behavior Around Food and Seating

Several improvements are also being made to prevent awkward situations during meals.

Previously, multiple Zois could attempt to reach the same plate of food, causing them to collide or behave unnaturally.

With the new behavior, if there is not enough food available, some Zois will instead look for additional food rather than all trying to use the same plate.

Seating behavior is also being improved.

Zois will no longer automatically sit next to someone they barely know when an empty table is available nearby. On the other hand, if a Zoi actually wants to eat with someone, they can choose to ignore a closer empty table and sit with the Zoi they intended to join.

These are relatively small changes, but together they could make social situations feel much more believable.

😋 Zois Will React to Food They Like — or Dislike

Food preferences are also receiving more personality.

Zois will now have positive or negative reactions depending on whether they enjoy what they are eating.

A preferred meal can trigger a positive response, while food or activities that a Zoi dislikes can result in a negative reaction.

This is another step toward making preferences feel more visible during everyday gameplay.

🔧 Small Changes, Bigger Foundations

While this upcoming update may not introduce as much entirely new content as some players expected, the latest development update shows that the team is putting significant effort into the smaller systems that shape everyday life in inZOI.

From smarter restaurant visits and improved dining behavior to vacations, sleepovers, NPC autonomy controls, and more direct player interactions, many of these changes are focused on making Zois feel less like characters simply moving between objects and more like people acting with a purpose.

The August update may have been delayed until early September, but the developers hope that the additional time will help them deliver a stronger foundation for the future of inZOI.
