The inZOI development team has released another weekly update, but this time the spotlight isn't on flashy new content it's on the systems that make the game feel alive.

Alongside numerous quality-of-life improvements, Kjun shared one of the most important development updates yet: the autonomy system that controls every Zoi is being completely redesigned. According to the game's director, this will become the foundation that connects every other gameplay system together.

Here's everything revealed this week.

🧠 The Autonomy System Is Being Rebuilt From the Ground Up

In his weekly developer post, Kjun explained that after several years of development, he has realized the current autonomy system has reached its limits.

At the moment, every Zoi constantly scans nearby interactions, evaluates them using dozens of factors—including needs, personality traits, preferences, schedules, and priorities—and simply chooses the interaction with the highest score.

While this system has worked well so far, the team believes it no longer creates truly human-like behavior.

Instead of making decisions purely based on numbers, future versions of the autonomy system will rely much more on behavioral rules that mimic how real people think and act.

For example:

  • 👨‍👩‍👧 Family-oriented Zoi will naturally prefer spending time with their spouse and children.
  • 🗣️ Outgoing personalities will actively seek social interactions.
  • 🌳 Couples visiting a park won't immediately split up to perform separate activities—they'll walk together, chat, and enjoy spending time as a couple.

Kjun described autonomy as the true engine of a life simulation game, and improving it has become the team's highest priority throughout July. Once that foundation is complete, development will shift toward making every gameplay system work together more naturally.

🚗 Driving Physics Receive New Sound Effects

Following the positive reception of the recently introduced driving physics, the developers are now working on improving immersion even further.

Upcoming additions include:

  • 🔊 realistic engine sounds,
  • 💥 different collision sound effects,
  • 🚘 improved overall driving audio.

These changes are based directly on community feedback.

🛏️ Beds Are Now Assigned Automatically

Moving into a new home will soon become much less tedious.

Whenever a household relocates, every family member will automatically receive an assigned bed.

Players can still manually change bed ownership afterwards, but they will no longer need to assign every bed themselves after each move.

🍔 Smarter Priority System for Basic Needs

One of the biggest gameplay improvements shown this week focuses on how autonomous Zoi prioritize their daily lives.

Previously, characters could ignore critical needs—like eating or using the bathroom—in favor of less important activities.

The new priority system ensures that:

  • 🚽 urgent needs override lower-priority actions,
  • 🍽️ essential interactions are no longer ignored,
  • 🧠 autonomous behavior becomes significantly more believable.

This should eliminate many frustrating situations players have experienced since launch.

💬 Emotional Conversations Won't Be Interrupted

Another immersion-breaking issue has also been addressed.

Characters engaged in emotional or meaningful conversations will no longer be randomly interrupted by other Zoi trying to interact with them.

The result should be smoother and more natural social interactions.

🏠 Zoi Will Use Objects Inside Their Current Building

The autonomy system has also received an important logic improvement.

Previously, Zoi often selected objects purely based on distance, even if that meant leaving the building they were already inside.

Now the system prioritizes location first, allowing characters to satisfy their needs using objects within the same building whenever possible.

It's a relatively small change that should make everyday behavior feel much more realistic.

🎣 NPCs Will Finally Go Fishing

Fishing has been added as a possible autonomous activity for NPCs.

Until now, players rarely saw anyone using fishing spots around the city.

With this update, more Zoi will naturally spend their free time fishing, making the world feel far more alive.

👥 New Conversation Participant Indicator

The developers also introduced a new real-time UI indicator that clearly shows which characters are currently participating in a conversation.

This should make larger social interactions much easier to follow.

🛗 Small Quality-of-Life Improvements

Several smaller improvements were also showcased:

  • 🚫 elevators no longer allow selecting the floor you're already on,
  • ⚙️ various interface improvements continue throughout the game.

🏗️ Build Mode Gets Better Organization

Finding objects in Build Mode should soon become much easier.

The object catalog is being expanded with new subcategories, reducing the amount of scrolling required when searching for furniture and decorations.

It's another quality-of-life improvement requested by the community.

🤸 Controlled Jumps Are Coming to inZOI

Perhaps the biggest gameplay surprise of the video was the first look at controlled jumping.

Although still in an early prototype stage, players will eventually be able to manually jump, with the system fully integrated into the game's ragdoll physics.

Examples shown include:

  • 🤕 failed or unsafe jumps resulting in realistic ragdoll falls,
  • 🏊 jumping into swimming pools automatically transitioning into swimming.

The developers say they're still exploring additional gameplay uses for the mechanic and are asking players for suggestions.
