Kjun, the Producer & Director of inZOI, has officially announced the removal of Denuvo from the Early Access build. Initially implemented to prevent illegal distribution, the decision to remove it was made after carefully considering community feedback.

The team acknowledges that while this increases the risk of piracy, it also allows inZOI to be more configurable, fostering a stronger modding community. Their commitment to mod support remains firm, with the first stage launching in May, enabling tools like Maya and Blender for custom content.

Apologizing for the lack of transparency during the demo period, Kjun assures players that the team will continue to prioritize player feedback and create the best possible experience. More details on modding will be shared soon.

What is Denuvo?

Denuvo is a digital rights management (DRM) system used in many video games to prevent illegal copying and distribution. By using advanced encryption technology, Denuvo aims to stop piracy before a game’s official release, giving publishers greater control over their product's distribution.

Negative Effects of Denuvo on Modding and Performance

  1. Modding Limitations: Denuvo can be a hindrance for modders. The DRM system introduces additional security measures within the game’s code, which can interfere with or even block the creation of mods. Modders who want to alter the game (e.g., adding new characters, maps, clothings, or mechanics) often face difficulties, as the protection system is incompatible with most modding tools like Blender or Maya. This restricts the ability to customize or enhance the game for the community.

  2. Game Performance: Although Denuvo effectively prevents piracy, it can negatively impact game performance. The DRM system runs in the background and consumes additional system resources, which can lead to a drop in game performance, particularly on lower-end hardware. Players may notice lag, longer load times, and generally reduced performance. In resource-intensive games, such as AAA titles, the impact on performance can be more noticeable.

For these reasons, the decision to remove Denuvo from inZOI is seen as a positive move by the community, as it allows for greater freedom in modding the game and improves overall performance.
